Tee Martin returns to Vols as assistant

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Two decades after playing quarterback on Tennessee's last national championship team, Tee Martin is returning to his alma mater as an assistant coach.

Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt announced Saturday that Martin has joined his staff. Martin's specific title and duties haven't been announced yet.

"It's the perfect time to come back home," Martin said in a statement released by the university.

Rypien, Stick throw TDs in Shrine Game

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Brett Rypien displayed some of his pedigree in the East-West Shrine Game.

Rypien and Easton Stick each threw a touchdown pass to help the West beat the East 21-17 on Saturday.

Ex-Utah State LB found guilty of rape

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) A jury Friday found a former Utah State University football player guilty of sexually assaulting six women while he was in college.

The jury convicted 25-year-old Torrey Green of five counts of rape, one charge of object rape, a count of forcible sexual abuse and one charge of misdemeanor sexual battery, the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News reported.

Georgia adds ex-Florida DBs coach

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Georgia coach Kirby Smart has hired Charlton Warren from Florida as defensive backs coach.

Warren spent the 2018 season as Florida's cornerbacks coach after coaching defensive backs and special teams at Tennessee in 2017.

Wisconsin extends Chryst through 2024

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin renewed football coach Paul Chryst's five-year contract through January 2024 on Friday.

Chryst is entering his fifth season with the Badgers, who wrapped up a relatively disappointing season at 8-5 (5-4 Big Ten) with a dominating 35-3 win in the Pinstripe Bowl over Miami. Chryst is 42-12 at Wisconsin and the Badgers won consecutive Big Ten West titles before falling short this past season.

NIU hires ex-RB Hammock as head coach

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) Northern Illinois has hired former star running back Thomas Hammock as its head coach.

Hammock is taking over at his alma mater after spending 16 seasons as a college and NFL assistant - the past five as the Baltimore Ravens' running backs coach. With the hiring announced Friday, he becomes the first African-American head football coach at NIU.

Coastal Carolina coach Moglia resigns

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) Joe Moglia, the one-time CEO of TD Ameritrade, has resigned as head football coach at Coastal Carolina.

The 69-year-old Moglia announced the decision Friday. He said he'll stay on as Coastal's chairman of athletics for the final two years of his contract and have authority over the football program. Offensive coordinator Jamey Chadwell has been promoted to head coach.

Iowa State rehires 2016-17 OC Manning

AMES, Iowa (AP) Iowa State rehired Tom Manning as its offensive coordinator on Friday.

Manning, who spent last season on the staff of the Indianapolis Colts, is returning to Ames to run the Cyclones offense under fourth-year coach Matt Campbell.

Ex-Georgia DB Gibbs transferring to Vols

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Former Georgia defensive back Deangelo Gibbs is transferring to Tennessee.

Gibbs tweeted Friday that "I am 100% committed to giving everything I have to the (hash)VolNation." The Tennessee football program's official Twitter account sent out a tweet with Gibbs in a Tennessee uniform along with the message "Welcome To Rocky Top."

At least 2 QBs plan to transfer from UT

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas is set at quarterback with Sam Ehlinger, who had a breakout season in 2018. It is the depth chart behind him that has suddenly become a concern for coach Tom Herman as the wave of players exploring their options to move has reached the Longhorns.

Experienced backup Shane Buechele entered the NCAA transfer database Thursday and could be playing somewhere else next season. Freshman Cameron Rising has left the team and plans to transfer. Another touted freshman backup, Casey Thompson, took to Twitter on Thursday to knock down a report that he'd told the team he'll be back next season and said he hasn't made up his mind.
